Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve and hose check and replacement

1. The PCV valve is located below the intake manifold (see illustration).

i. 1 The PCV valve (1) is threaded into the oil separator case (2) — (intake manifold removed)

2. Remove the intake manifold (see Engine) detach the hose, unscrew the valve from the separator case and replace it (see illustration).

i. 2 To check the PVC valve, first attach a clean length of hose to the cylinder block side of the valve and blow through it — air should pass through easily — then blow through the intake manifold side of the valve and verify that air passes through with difficulty

3. When purchasing a replacement PCV valve, make sure it’s for your particular vehicle and engine size. Compare the old valve with the new one to make sure they’re the same.
