Automatic transaxle fluid level check
Note: These models are not equipped with an automatic transaxle fluid dipstick.
Note: The vehicle must be level for this check. If there is not enough room to crawl under the vehicle, raise both ends and support it securely on jack stands.
Note: The fluid temperature must be between 104 and 113-degrees F (40 to 45-degrees C) to perform this check.
1. Set the parking brake and block the rear wheels. With the engine idling, remove the overflow plug from the bottom of the transaxle fluid pan (see illustration).
i. 1 Remove the transaxle fluid overflow plug
2. If the fluid runs out of the hole, allow it to drip until it stops. If no fluid comes out of the hole, remove the fill plug (see illustrations), located on the side of the transaxle housing, near the rear.
i. 2a If fluid flows from the hole, let it drain until it stops
i. 2b If it’s necessary to add fluid, remove the inner fender splash shield fasteners and shield
i. 2c… then remove the transaxle fill plug
3. Add the proper type of transmission fluid (see this Chapter’s Specifications) through the fill plug hole (see illustration), until fluid flows from the overflow hole in the bottom of the pan. When the flow of fluid slows to a trickle, install the overflow plug and tighten it to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
i. 3 Use a hand pump connected to a hose to add fluid to the transaxle
4. Tighten the fill plug to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
