Transfer case
Note: The 4WD system may also be referred to as the dynamic torque control AWD system.
1. All-wheel drive (AWD) models are equipped with a transfer unit mounted to the transaxle. Drive is transmitted from the engine, through the transaxle to the front wheels by driveaxles, and through a transfer unit and a driveshaft to the rear differential, then to the rear wheels by driveaxles.
2. The AWD system detects driving conditions based on input signals from each control module, switch, steering angle sensor, wheel speed sensors, and the acceleration sensor. The system controls the current passing through the solenoid of the electromagnetic coupling, and controls the optimum torque to the rear wheels.
3. We don’t recommend trying to rebuild a transfer unit at home. It’s difficult to overhaul without the special tools, and units are available for less than it would cost to rebuild your own.
