Wheel studs — replacement

Note: This procedure applies to both the front and rear wheel studs.

1. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.

2. Remove the brake disc or drum (see Brakes).

3. Install a lug nut part way onto the stud being replaced. Push the stud out of the hub flange with a press tool (see illustration).

4. Insert the new stud into the hub flange from the back side and install some flat washers and a lug nut on the stud (see illustration).

i. 4 Install a spacer and a lug nut on the stud, then tighten the nut to draw the stud into place

5. Tighten the lug nut until the stud is seated in the flange.

6. Reinstall the brake drum or disc. Install the wheel and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque listed in the Tune-up and routine maintenance Specifications.
