Shock absorber (rear) — removal, inspection and installation
1. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Block the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Remove the wheel.
2. Support the rear suspension arm «B» with a floor jack and a board (to protect the suspension arm from any damage). Raise the jack slightly to take the spring pressure off the shock absorber lower mount (roughly 1.5 to 2 inches is sufficient).
Note: The jack must remain in this position throughout the entire procedure.
3. Working from the underside the vehicle, remove the lower two bolts from the shock absorber bracket (see illustration).
i. 3 Remove these two bolts from the shock absorber bracket
4. Remove the upper mounting bolt (see illustration).
i. 4 Rear shock absorber upper mounting bolt
5. Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle, then remove the lower mounting bracket, and separate the shock absorber from the bracket (see illustration).
i. 5 Shock absorber lower mounting bracket fastener. Install the bracket on the replacement shock absorber
6. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the mounting fasteners to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
Note: Before tightening the shock absorber to lower mounting bracket fasteners, raise the lower arm with a floor jack to simulate normal ride height.
