Fuel pressure regulator — removal and installation
Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when you work on any part of the fuel system. See Fuel system warnings in Fuel and exhaust systems.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure (see Fuel pressure relief procedure). Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).
2. Remove the fuel pump from the fuel pump module (see Fuel pump module/fuel level sending unit — removal and installation).
3. Disconnect the fuel return jet tube from the clamp on the fuel pressure regulator.
4. Separate the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel filter (see illustration).
i. 4 Carefully pry the fuel pressure regulator from the pump housing
5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to install a new 0-ring(s) (see illustration) on the fuel pressure regulator.
i. 5 Be sure to install a new 0-ring(s) onto the fuel pressure regulator before installing it back into the fuel pump assembly
6. Use a scan tool to activate the fuel pump and check for leaks. If a scan tool is not available, turn the ignition to On and verify there are no fuel leaks. If no leaks are present, start and run the engine and check for leaks again.
