Oil pump — removal and installation
Note: The oil pump is not serviceable separately from the timing chain cover. If the oil pump is defective, the timing chain cover and pump must be replaced as a unit (see Timing chain and sprockets — removal, inspection and installation …. ).
Removal
1. Remove the engine.
2. Remove the valve cover (see Valve cover — removal and installation ).
3. Remove the crankshaft pulley (see Crankshaft pulley/vibration damper — removal and installation ).
4. Remove the engine mount and mounting bracket.
5. Remove the timing chain cover (see Timing chain and sprockets — removal, inspection and installation …. ).
Installation
6. Install new oil pump gaskets and oil hole cover gasket to the lower crankcase.
7. Lubricate the pump cavity by pouring clean engine oil into the inlet side of the oil pump and turning the drive gear shaft.
8. Align the flats on the crankshaft timing sprocket with the flats on the oil pump drive rotor.
9. Install the timing chain cover (see Timing chain and sprockets — removal, inspection and installation … ) and tighten the bolts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications in several steps.
10. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.
11. Add oil to the proper level, start the engine and check for oil pressure and leaks.
