Toyota RAV4 > Engine

Engine

1. This Chapter is devoted to engine component repair procedures, except for engine overhaul.

2. Some of the following repair procedures assume that the engine is installed in the vehicle. However, due to the design of the vehicle, many procedures that are normally accomplished in-vehicle require engine removal.

3. The Specifications included in this Chapter apply only to the procedures contained in this Part.

4. These engines incorporate an aluminum cylinder block with a lower crankcase to strengthen the lower half of the block. Although the cylinder head utilizes dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) with four valves per cylinder as in previous model years, it is of a new design. The camshafts are driven from a single timing chain off the crankshaft, and a Variable Valve Timing (VVT-i) system is incorporated on the intake and exhaust camshafts to increase horsepower and decrease emissions.
