Ignition coil(s) — replacement
Warning: Wear eye protection when using compressed air.
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Battery — removal and installation).
2. Remove the engine cover by pulling up to detach the retainers.
3. Each ignition coil is secured by a bolt (see illustration). Unscrew the bolt, disconnect the electrical connector and pull the coil straight up, using a twisting motion.
i. 3 Disconnect the electrical connectors (A), remove the mounting bolts (B) then pull the coils off of the spark plugs and out of the valve cover, using a twisting motion
4. With the coils removed, use compressed air to blow out debris from inside and the area around the spark plug holes.
5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Apply a dab of dielectric compound to the inside of the coil boots to ensure a clean connection to the spark plugs.
6. For spark plug replacement, see Tune-up and routine maintenance.
