Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor — replacement and testing
Replacement
1. Make sure the ignition key is in the Off position.
2. The Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor is located on the air filter housing (see illustration).
i. 2 Location of the MAF sensor
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the MAF sensor.
4. Remove the two sensor retaining screws and remove the MAF sensor and 0-ring.
5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to inspect the MAF sensor 0-ring and replace it if damaged.
Testing
Note: Before performing the test (with the MAF sensor removed), visually inspect the bottom end of the sensor. If there is a buildup of dirt or debris on the sensor element (it resembles the look of a resistor(s) recessed into the sensor), clean it off with aerosol MAF sensor cleaner or electronics-safe cleaner.
6. Remove the MAF sensor (see previous Steps).
7. Using a Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) set to measure resistance, measure between terminals 1 and 2 of the MAF sensor (see illustration).
i. 7 Measure terminals 1 and 2 of the MAF sensor with an ohmmeter
8. In below freezing temperatures (-4 degrees-F), resistance should be 13.6k to 18.4k ohms. At room temperature (68 degrees-F), resistance should be 2.21k to 2.69k ohms. With the engine warmed up and sensor installed (140 degrees-F), resistance should be 0.49k to 0ё67k ohmsё
