Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system — component Replacement
Warning: Gasoline and gasoline vapors are extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when you work on any part of the fuel system. Don’t smoke or allow open flames or bare light bulbs near the work area, and don’t work in a garage where a gas-type appliance (such as a water heater or clothes dryer) is present. Since gasoline is carcinogenic, wear fuel-resistant gloves when there’s a possibility of being exposed to fuel, and, if you spill any fuel on your skin, rinse it off immediately with soap and water. Mop up any spills immediately and do not store fuel-soaked rags where they could ignite. When you perform any kind of work on the fuel system, wear safety glasses and have a Class B type fire extinguisher on hand.
EVAP canister purge valve
Note: The EVAP canister purge valve is located on the side of the air intake tube. The canister purge valve may also be referred to as the purge Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) -not to be confused with the ACIS VSV.
1. Release the purge valve from the air intake tube by detaching the claw at the base of the valve (see illustration).

2. Disconnect the electrical connector and harness clip, then disconnect the EVAP hoses from the purge valve.
3. Installation is the reverse of removal.
4. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
5. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands.
6. Remove the inner and outer under-vehicle splash shields located in front of the fuel tank (see Fuel pump module/fuel level sending unit — removal and installation).
Note: See Fuel lines and fittings – general information and disconnection for general examples on fuel/EVAP line connection types.
7. Disconnect the three EVAP hoses and leak detection pump electrical connector from the canister. Remove the four bolts and separate the canister from the underside of the vehicle (see illustration).
i. 7 Disconnect the EVAP canister hoses and electrical connector (A) and remove the bracket bolts (B)
8. If a new canister is to be installed, remove the brackets (held together by plastic claws to be detached) and leak detection pump, transferring to the new canister.
9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Leak Detection Pump (LDP)
Note: The LDP is also referred to as the canister pump module. The LDP is attached to the EVAP canister.
10. Remove the EVAP canister (see previous Steps).
11. Clean the canister of dirt and debris before removing the LDP (see illustration).

12. Depress the locking tabs on each side securing the LDP to the canister. Then, at the same time, pull the LDP off of the canister, using a screwdriver engaged into the prying slot for leverage.
13. Installation is the reverse of removal.
