(4WD models) — removal and installation

Removal

1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Block the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Place the transaxle in Neutral with the parking brake off.

2. Drain the differential lubricant (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).

3. Remove the fuel tank and rear exhaustpipe (see Fuel and exhaust systems).

4. Remove the driveshaft (see Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor — replacement).

5. Remove the rear differential supportbrace bolts (see illustration).

6. Disconnect the electromagnetic harnessand breather clamp, then remove the breather tube.

7. Remove the rear drive axles from the differential and secure out of the way (see Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor — replacement).

8. Support the differential with a floor jackand remove the front and rear differential-tobody mounting fasteners (see illustration).

9. Slowly lower the jack and remove the differential from the vehicle.

Installation

10. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten all fasteners to the torque values listed in this Chapter’s Specifications. Fill the differential with the proper lubricant (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
