Heater and air conditioning control assembly — removal, installation and cable adjustment
Warning: The models covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of any airbag system components to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag, which could cause personal injury (see Chassis electrical system).
Removal and installation
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).
2. Remove the center instrument trim panel (see Body).
3. Remove the center trim (see Body), then disengage the clips for the center vent registers on each side of the radio and remove the vents.
4. Remove the radio (see Chassis electrical system).
5. Using a trim tool, disengage the control assembly retaining clips and carefully pry the assembly out of the instrument panel (see illustration).

6. Pull the control assembly out of the instrument panel and disconnect the electrical connectors (see illustrations).
i. 6a Disconnect the electrical connectors from the control assembly
i. 6b… then squeeze the connector to the control nobs and disconnect the electrical connectors from the knobs
7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
