Steering column switches
Warning: The models covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of any airbag system components to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag(s), which could cause personal injury (see Airbag system — general information).
Combination switch
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Engine electrical systems).
2. Remove the steering wheel (see Suspension and steering systems).
3. Remove the steering column covers (see Body).
4. Unplug the electrical connectors from the combination switch (see illustration).
i. 4 Carefully unplug all of the electrical connectors. They only fit in one place so you won’t need to mark them
5. Lift the claw-like clips upward and pull the combination switch assembly from the column (see illustration).
i. 5 Do not put excessive pressure on the claw clips or you could damage them
6. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Combination switch disassembly
7. The next series of photos will guide you through the removal of the individual components of the combination switch assembly.
i. 7a The wiper switch and combination switch are held on with claw-type clips. Lift the clip slightly and slide the switch off
i. 7b The spiral cable (clock spring) can be removed by lifting the claw clips slightly, then pull the unit off
8. Reconnect the components as needed utilizing the claw clips. The components should snap into place. Be sure that the individual components align up with their per-
sportive slots and guides before snapping into place. Otherwise, installation is the reverse of removal.
9. When installing the combination switch/ clock spring, be sure to center the clock spring as described in Steering wheel — removal and installation.
Steering wheel switches Cruise control switch
10. Remove the steering wheel see Body.
11. Remove the two screws securing the switch to the steering wheel (see illustration).
i.11 Remove the two screws holding the switch in place
12. Guide the wire and connector out of the steering wheel as you remove the switch.
13. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Audio and function buttons
14. Remove the steering wheel (see Body).
15. Remove the cruise control switch.
16. Remove the two screws securing the switch trim plate onto the steering wheel (see illustrations).
i. 16a These two screws will need to be removed…
i. 16b… then use a flat trim tool to release the claw clips and remove the switch trim plate
17. With the trim cover removed, remove the individual switches.
18. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Paddle shift levers
19. Remove the steering wheel see Body.
20. Remove the cruise control switch and audio switches.
21. Remove the trim from the back of the steering wheel by releasing the claw clips.
22. Release the paddle switches by prying the claw clips open.
23. Remove the two wire straps securing the wire leads to the steering wheel.
24. Installation is the reverse of removal.
