Parking brake — adjustment
1. The parking brake lever, when properly adjusted, should travel (on average) six to nine clicks, when a moderate pulling force is applied (45 fibs). If it travels less than the specified minimum number of clicks, there’s a chance the parking brake might not be releasing completely and might be dragging. If the lever can be pulled up more than the specified maximum number of clicks, the parking brake may not hold adequately on an incline, allowing the car to roll.
2. Remove the center console rear box sub-assembly.
3. Loosen the locknut (the upper nut) while holding the adjusting nut (lower nut) with a wrench (see illustration). Turn the adjusting nut until the desired travel is attained. Tighten the locknut.
. 3
Loosen the locknut, then turn the adjusting nut until the desired handle travel is obtained
4. If the lever is still not within the number of clicks as per the year of the vehicle, check the rear brakes for proper adjustment or the condition of the parking brake cables.
