Steering column covers — removal and installation
Warning: The models covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of any airbag system component to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag, which could cause personal injury (see Chassis electrical system).
1. Remove the steering wheel (see Suspension and steering systems).
2. The steering column covers are held in place by two screws just behind the steering wheel and pressure clips on the sides (see illustrations).
i. 2a with the steering wheel removed the two screws can be reached
i. 2b Tilt the steering column to its highest point, then release the claw type fasteners on each side of the covers
i. 2c Release the three claw type fasteners, four clips, and two pins from the upper steering column cover to remove it
3. The rear part of the upper cover is hooked into the lower cover. Guide the hooked end out of the lower cover as you remove the upper cover.
4. Installation is the reverse of removal.
