Door latch, lock cylinder and handles — removal and installation…
Warning: The models covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disable the airbag system before working in the vicinity of any airbag system component to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag, which could cause personal injury (see Chassis electrical system).
Warning: Wear gloves when working inside the door openings to protect against cuts from sharp metal edges.
Door latch
1. Raise the window, then remove the door trim panel and water shield (see Door trim panels — removal and installation).
2. Working through the large access hole, disengage the outside door handle-to-latch rod and outside door lock-to-latch rod (see illustration).
i. 2 Detach the plastic clips on the actuating rods (by rotating them 90-degrees) leading to the outside handle and the door lock cylinder, then disengage the rods
3. All door lock rods are attached by plastic clips. The plastic clips can be removed by unsnapping the portion engaging the connecting rod and pulling the rod out of its locating hole. On models with power door locks, disconnect the electrical connectors at the latch.
4. Remove the screws securing the latch to the door (see illustration). Remove the latch assembly through the door opening.

Note: If the latch still cannot be easily removed, it may help to remove the outside door handle inner housing (see illustration 16. 2) and also unbolt the outer-end door window glass track, repositioning it to allow for removal
5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Outside handle and door lock cylinder
6. Remove the plastic plug from the edge of the door (see illustration) to gain access to the retaining bolt for the lock cylinder and outside handle. Loosen the bolt until the lock cylinder can be pulled out of the door.
i. 6 Remove the plug to gain access to the outside handle/lock cylinder retaining screw
7. Withdraw the lock cylinder from the door handle (detaching the lock cylinder clips, if necessary) (see illustration).
i. 7 Pull the lock cylinder straight out to remove it
8. Remove the outside handle by sliding it rearward and pulling it off of the door (see illustration). If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector from the handle.
i. 8 Slide the handle rearward, then pull it off the door to remove it
9. The trim pads for the outside handle can now be removed as well. Release the claw-type clips securing the pads to the door and remove them.
10. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Inside door handle
11. Remove the door trim panel (see Door trim panels — removal and installation).
Note: Make a note of the cables’ locations to ensure correct installation
12. Disconnect the cables from the inside handle, then release the side clips to remove the assembly (see illustration).
i. 12 Detach the cable housings from the slots (A) and the cable ends, then remove the assembly by disengaging the side clips (B)
13. Installation is the reverse of removal.
