Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch — replacement and adjustment

1. If the engine will start with the shift leverin any position other than Park or Neutral, adjust the Park/Neutral Position switch.

2. Remove the air filter housing (see Air filter housing — removal and installation).

3. Apply the parking brake and block therear wheels and shift the transaxle into Neutral.

4. Remove the nut and disconnect the shiftcable from the lever.

5. Remove the nut and lift off the manualshift lever.

6. If the switch is to be adjusted, loosen theswitch retaining bolts.

7. If the switch is to be replaced, removethe bolts, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the switch.

8. Install the new switch as necessary andlooselyinstall the bolts.

9. To adjust the switch, align the line on thePNP switch body with the groove in the PNP switch pivot (see illustration).

10. Tighten the switch retaining bolts securely.

11. Install the components previously removed.

12. Check the operation of the switch. If the vehicle still starts in any position other than Park or Neutral, replace the switch.
